Description

We've all seen the Star Wars movies with Luke Skywalker donning a mechanical hand. And we have all seen the Iron Man suits. But, where are we today, and what can we expect in the future in the area of biomechanics and prosthetic devices? Please join the ASME Baltimore Section as we host a FREE Zoom webinar featuring Mr. Kyle Ott from the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab (JHU/APL) for a discussion on biomechanics, research that is ongoing, systems that have been built and tested, challenges to be overcome, and what is likely to come. During this 1-hour webinar, you’ll learn about the structure and function of the mechanical aspects of biological systems, the move to a reality where we are able to synthetically replace limbs through advanced prosthetics, where wearables increasingly monitor our movements and biological functions, and where threats continue to evolve past our current soldier protection systems. Mr. Ott will share his experiences (and some great photos and movies) working in JHU/APL’s biomechanics program, and discuss the current state of the art as well as where this exciting area is headed.
