ASME/Virginia Tech Memorial Scholarship
# of awards available: 1 award
$ Amount: $4,000
Student Status: For graduate study at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Requirements: Applicants must be enrolled at VT at the time the award is granted. The award recipient will be selected on the basis of scholastic ability and potential contribution to the mechanical engineering profession.
Locations: Study at Virginia Tech only.
Scholarship Description
To create an ongoing remembrance of the April, 2007 tragedy at Virginia Tech, an endowed memorial scholarship for VT College of Engineering Graduate Students is funded by gifts of all sizes from all parts of ASME including the ASME Board of Governors, Divisions, Institutes, Sections, ASME members, staff and friends.
ASME Undergraduate Scholarship for a Hispanic Engineer
# of awards available: 2 awards, one for an Undergraduate and one for a Graduate student
$ Amount: $5,000
Student Status: for study in the upcoming academic year
Requirements: Applicants must be enrolled in a mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology or related baccalaureate or graduate program. The award recipient will be selected on the basis of leadership, scholastic ability, demonstrated financial need, and potential contribution to the mechanical engineering profession.
- Must be a member of both ASME and SHPE (Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers)
- Demonstrated volunteer work to benefit others through at least one of the two societies, highly desirable
- Demonstrated financial need
- Minimum accumulated GPA of 2.75
- Students must study in the U.S.
Scholarship Description
The scholarship was established in 2014 and is funded through the ASME Foundation by both ASME and SHPE.
ASME International Gas Turbine Institute Scholarship
# of awards available: approximately 20
$ Amount: $2,000 per year
Student Status: for undergraduate or graduate students taking at least one course on Gas and/or Turbomachinery.
Requirements: Applicants must be enrolled in a mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology or related baccalaureate program. The award recipients will be selected on the basis of scholastic ability and potential contribution to the mechanical engineering profession.
Scholarship Description
ASME International Gas Turbine Institute (IGTI) has a long and proud history of providing scholarships to students who show promise for their future profession in the turbomachinery field. The goal is to attract young talent to the profession and reward their commitment, favoring their upcoming enrollment and active participation.

ASME Standards & Certifications (S&C) Scholarship
# of awards available: 1 award, (Renewable up to max of 3 year), for multi-year study beginning in an early undergraduate year.
$ Amount: up to $10,000 per year
Student Status: for multi-year study beginning in an early undergraduate year. One year of post-graduate study may be allowed.
Requirements: Applicants must be enrolled in a mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology or related baccalaureate program. The award recipients will be selected on the basis of scholastic ability and potential contribution to the mechanical engineering profession. To be considered for this award the student must meet these additional requirements:
- Minimum accumulated GPA of 3.0/4.0 (or international equivalent)
- Letter of recommendation from ASME Student Section Advisor or Department Head/Chair
- Continue in good academic standing with university
Scholarship Description
The S&C Memorial Scholarship fund was established in 2017 through the generous endowment of ASME Standards & Certifications and was created to memorialize volunteers and staff members who have devoted their careers to the development and promulgation of ASME Standards and Certification programs.
Elisabeth M. and Winchell M. Parsons Scholarship
# of awards available: up to 2 awards
$ Amount: $3,000
Student Status: For a student working toward a Doctoral Degree in Engineering.
Requirements: Applicant must be a US Citizen and be enrolled in a mechanical engineering program. This scholarship is to be used for a Doctoral Degree in Engineering.

Marjorie Roy Rothermel Scholarship
# of awards available: up to 2 awards
$ Amount: $3,000
Student Status: For a student working toward a Master's Degree in Engineering.
Requirements: Applicant must be a US Citizen and be enrolled in a mechanical engineering program. This scholarship is to be used for a Master's Degree in Engineering.

Rice-Cullimore Scholarship

Student Status: For study at the Master’s and Ph.D. level, Global (Non-US) Students
Scholarship Description
This grant is given to a foreign student for one year's maintenance while doing graduate work for a Master's or Doctoral Degree in mechanical engineering in the U.S. under the Fulbright Program. Applications for that Program must be obtained from and filed with the local Institute of International Education (IIE) Office or the Education Office at the U.S. Embassy in your home country. Willis F. Thompson Memorial Scholarship

Student Status: for study in the sophomore, junior or senior year or graduate study. Global
Requirements: Applicants must be enrolled at a mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology or related baccalaureate program. The award recipient will be selected on the basis of scholastic ability and potential contribution to the mechanical engineering profession.
Scholarship Description
The Willis F. Thompson Memorial Scholarships will be awarded to mechanical engineering students, with a preference given to students who demonstrate an interest in advancing the field of power generation.
Mary Evans Stowell Thompson, a founding member of the ASME Foundation's Archimedes Club, bequeathed a scholarship fund ". . . in memory of my her late husband Willis who played a vital and instrumental role in the conception and development of the United Engineering Center in New York City, and in recognition of my late husband's his lifelong interest and services in many capacities to ASME."
