Please note: we review ATP applications on a quarterly basis. Application does not guarantee any organization will be approved. Commonly, applications take 6-8 weeks from submission to final decision. After a final decision is reached, a contract must be mutually executed before a training provider is an official ASME ATP. We reserve the right to approve/deny any application based on our sole judgement.

BSQP Authorized Training Provider FAQs
Prior to registering for the Hands-On Training Day and before arriving at the Authorized Training Provider (ATP) for this hands-on work, trainees will have completed:
- The online instructional modules of the course and will have successfully passed the theoretical knowledge examinations over that material
- The bolting plan worksheets to be used during the manual and hydraulic torquing exercises in the hands-on training
ATPs will be responsible for verifying the trainee’s eligibility, collecting all fees for the hands-on portion of the program, verifying registration information, providing a waiver form for participants to sign, and delivering any training materials upon, or prior to, the trainee’s arrival at the center.
While ATPs are free to offer additional specific instruction and courses to trainees at another time, the Bolting Specialist Hands-on training should be completed in one day and no other requirements should be part of the qualification process.
The ATP facility will be audited and inspected to ensure that it has the appropriate demonstration tools, fixtures, hardware, electric and air supplies, projection and sound equipment and other instructional accessories in place. The facility will have the equipment and tools (or comparable versions) as listed in the attached Equipment List.
The facility must be clean and neat. It should be large enough to accommodate up to 10 trainees and two instructors and should have at least one and possibly two independent training areas where groups can work separately, if necessary. The facility should also have a small classroom area with projection capability, whiteboard or equivalent, and a break/lunch area. The training area must be large enough to accommodate the training and equipment safely and effectively. View the Facility Checklist.
If multiple groups are to be trained simultaneously, each group should have its own independent work area. Because of the inherent risk of injury associated with powered bolting tools, there should be no more than 4-5 trainees per authorized instructor. If more than 5 people are present, a second qualified assistant instructor should be provided and the group divided, to allow close supervision of the tool handling activities. Group classroom instruction may be conducted for the whole group, but any tool handling or bolting activities should be done in groups no larger than 4-5 persons who can be directly supervised by an instructor for safety reasons.
As part of the hands-on training, ATPs will provide each of the items listed below in sufficient quantities to facilitate the delivery of the hands-on session to all qualified candidates.
Brand names in this list are only examples to aid in demo tool selection. Equivalent equipment is acceptable. Alternative assembly tests may be proposed by the ATP and approved during the program audit. ASME does not endorse any specific product. View the Equipment List.
