Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Each year on the third Monday in January, we observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in honor of the civil rights leader whose words and actions have shaped modern America and served as an inspiration to people across the world. It was nearly 60 years ago that Dr. King delivered his iconic address from the Lincoln Memorial at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. In his speech, Dr. King laid bare the injustice of racial inequality to the American public and shared his dream of a future where people would not be judged by the color of their skin but rather by the content of their character.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities, and the 2023 MLK holiday marks the 28th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates Dr. King’s life and legacy.  You can learn about The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service here.

Volunteerism is an integral component to the work that we do at ASME and to those who contribute their time and talents in service to our mission, we are extremely grateful.

There are also other ways that we as individuals can honor Dr. King’s legacy. You may want to read or listen to some of his speeches, which you can find at The Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute or perhaps explore service opportunities in your area.

ASME is committed to promoting and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.  We recognize the importance of fostering a culture that encourages, supports, and celebrates the diverse voices of our employees, volunteers, customers, and communities… on this day and every day.

With regards,
