This official ASME learning path consists of two courses:
Course 1: TRIZ: The Theory of Inventive Problem Solving This course provides a basic introduction to the Inventive Problem Solving Process known as TRIZ (Russian acronym for Theory of Inventive Problem Solving). TRIZ is a structured, left-brained approach to breakthrough innovation that utilizes patterns documented in the world's most inventive patents. This analysis demonstrates an overall algorithm, which when followed, allows anyone to provide breakthrough and novel solutions to problems as well as new product and business concepts.

  • Schedule:  This is a three-day course that runs from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM and 2:00 PM  to 6:00 PM Eastern, each day wtth breaks scheduled throughout.

 Course 2: Strategic ThinkingIn this course you will be presented with both standard tools (e.g., SWOT) and innovative approaches to develop your strategic mindset. You will learn how to discern fallacious reasoning traps as well as ways to counter them. In addition, you will practice using a powerful model to construct and deliver a winning argument.

  • Schedule: This is a one-day course that runs from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM and 2:00 PM  to 6:00 PM Eastern, each day with breaks scheduled throughout.

Gary Dichtenberg is the president of Professional Development Associates, a training and development consulting firm, dedicated to assist organizations and individuals achieve their highest level of performance excellence.
The vast majority of workshops and consulting services have occurred at companies such as MassMutual, Delta Air Lines, Lucent Technologies, and Pfizer. Gary founded Professional Development Associates in 1988 after serving as vice president of training and development for Citicorp. Prior to his work at Citicorp, he served as manager of management development at Consolidated Edison where he directed a broad developmental strategy that contributed to a fundamental change in the business.
Gary's expertise in persuasion and communication skills is enhanced by his broad experience in assisting companies improve their managerial excellence. He is a member of the commercial panel of the American Arbitration Association, the Network of Organizational Development practitioners and the American Society for Training and Development. Gary holds a B.A. degree in history from Hofstra University. He holds an M.S. in organizational psychology from Columbia University and an M.S.W. from Yeshiva University.
Jack Hipple is a certified TRIZ practitioner and TRIZ trainer for the Altshuller TRIZ Institute. He holds a Chemical Engineering degree from Carnegie Mellon University and has 30 years of industrial innovation experience, including responsibility for overseeing the Discovery Research Program at Dow Chemical. Mr. Hipple also teaches other courses for AIChE and ASME and oversaw global chemical engineering at Dow.  He was responsible for collaborative project teams in technology management at the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences as well as new product development at Ansell Edmont and Cabot Corporation.
