A dedicated special issue of the ASME Journal of Thermal Science and Engineering Applications (JTSEA) is being prepared to honor the memory of the late Professor Kenneth J. Bell. The special issue will pay tribute to Ken’s lifetime achievements and advancement of the field of thermal process engineering, heat exchanger design, and convective heat and mass transfer. Ken Bell was perhaps one of the most respected senior colleagues in both chemical and mechanical engineering, with an illustrious career spanning over six decades; he remained active even during retirement by contributing to teaching “practical science and engineering” and mentoring students in the broad areas of thermal sciences and engineering, and transport processes.

Paper submissions for the special issue are by invitation as well as general submissions (subject to such approval by the Editors). Paper submissions can be (1) original research, or (2) a critical review that also insightfully addresses “unresolved questions” in a relevant topic, or (3) an insightful commentary on the state-of-the-art of a topic of interest in heat and mass transport in processes industries.

Topic Areas

THE SCOPE OF THIS ISSUE INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Heat exchanger design
  • Heat exchanger testing and development
  • Heat exchanger fabrication including additive manufacturing
  • Theory of heat exchangers
  • CFD of heat exchangers

Special Issue Publication Dates

Paper submission deadline: May 1, 2024
Initial review completed: July 31, 2024
Publication date: December 2024

Submission Instructions

Please include a statement with your submission (in the authors’ comments) that the manuscript is intended for the Special Issue of JTSEA on Convective Heat-Mass Transport and Process Heat Exchangers.

Papers should be submitted electronically to the journal through the ASME Journal Tool. If you already have an account, log in as an author and select Submit Paper. If you do not have an account, you can create one here

Once at the Paper Submittal page, select the Journal of Thermal Science and Engineering Applications Engineering, and then under the Special Issue field, select Special Issue on Convective Heat-Mass Transport and Process Heat Exchangers.

Papers received after the deadline or papers not selected for the Special Issue may be accepted for publication in a regular issue.
