Electric vehicles (EV) are growing in usage. However, they have different tribological requirements from conventional internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEVs). For instance, the speeds, loads, and temperatures endured by driveline components in EVs are often more severe than in ICEVs. This can influence the reliability and performance of components such as bearings and gears, as well as the design of drivetrain tribological conditions, material selection, and lubricant formulation design. In addition, the influence of electrical and magnetic fields on lubricants and tribological contacts could influence performance.

The scope of this special issue includes work on lubricant formulations, materials, corrosion, and wear mechanisms specific to electric vehicles. Research on electrical connectors or other tribological components used specifically in EVs (i.e., shock absorbers, tires, etc.) is also of interest.
The new design characteristics, materials and mechanisms related to the understanding of the tribological (friction, lubrication and/or wear) performance of components for EVs will be considered for publication. Papers reporting results that do not contribute to the direct application to EVs will not be accepted.

Papers received after the deadline or papers not selected for the Special Issue may be accepted for publication in a regular issue.
