Among the factors contributing to the demand for mechanical engineers is their capacity to deliver innovative solutions in a variety of industries. According to Jim Gerlock, an executive recruitment specialist with Addison Group, recent graduates and engineers with less than five years of experience are in the best position to take advantage of the current job market.

These individuals along with seasoned professionals hold "foundational, technical knowledge" that is required in a variety of fields, but especially in manufacturing.
