With almost 300 ASME Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmarks listed on the ASME website, there are clear fan favorites including the Model-T and Radio City Music Hall’s hydraulically actuated stage.
Currently, there are nearly 300 ASME Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmarks. The first, Ferries & Cliffhouse Cable Railway Power House, was recognized by ASME in 1973 and the latest (Duesenberg brakes) was added just this year in March. In 1971, the Society began identifying artifacts or systems that represent “significant mechanical engineering technology” with landmarks spanning 25 topics including agriculture, air and space, electric power, and more.

The pages that ASME devotes to the landmarks garner a lot of interest and thousands of visits every year. Many, like the pages that cover the Model-T, consistently hold the designation of fan favorites. Find out what you know about the top five historical ME landmarks with this ASME quiz.
