Allyship in 3D Printing and Beyond
Allyship in 3D Printing and Beyond Allyship in 3D Printing and Beyond

I am excited to welcome Women in 3D Printing (Wi3DP) to the ASME family. Over the past decade, Wi3DP has been a leading force in promoting, supporting and inspiring women using additive manufacturing technologies.

Wi3DP elevates women’s voices, creates pathways into the industry, and helps to build a global community committed to inclusivity and innovation. This perfectly aligns with ASME’s mission to advance engineering for the benefit of humanity.

Our new partnership also underlines ASME’s commitment to building a welcoming engineering workforce. Currently, 13% of the advanced manufacturing and 3D printing workforce is women and 11% of businesses in the industry are women owned, according to Wi3DP research and Diversity for Additive Manufacturing reports.

Comparatively, around 16–17% of engineers in the U.S. are women, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and National Science Foundation, with variations by engineering discipline. Roughly 9% of mechanical engineers are women.  Together with Wi3DP, we aim to elevate these numbers to 50%.

I trust that each of Wi3DP’s 13,000 members finds an ally in ASME. We at ASME believe that allyship is a sustained commitment. This means investing in programs, platforms, and partnerships that break down barriers and build up communities. It also means leading alongside organizations like Women in 3D Printing to co-create and drive innovation for the future.

Together, we will continue to shape the future of manufacturing and inspire the next generation of engineers.

With regards,
