Podcast: Waste Heat Reuse

Aaron Wemhoff, professor of mechanical engineering at Villanova University, examines waste heat generated by data centers and posits that the situation is as much an opportunity as a challenge.
When artificial intelligence first came on the scene, servers that were located in the same area seemed to meet the challenge. But, as expected, the high demand for cloud computing and storage led to the demand for large-scale facilities—data centers (DCs) dedicated to housing critical data and computational services.
ASME Techcast talked with Aaron Wemhoff, professor of mechanical engineering at Villanova University, who with other researchers from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Villanova and QuantaCool Associates addressed ways to upgrade and reuse the waste heat produced by DCs.
