Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Jan 20, 2020
by Tom Costabile, P.E. ASME Executive Director/CEO
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. The 2020 MLK holiday marked the 25th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates Dr. King’s life and legacy. ASME has a thriving corps of volunteers who contribute their time and talents in service of our mission every day for which ASME is extremely grateful. As you work with volunteers around this MLK Day, please take a moment to recognize them for their contributions and service to ASME.
There are many other ways that we as individuals can honor Dr. King’s legacy. You may want to read or listen to some of his speeches, which you can find at The Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute. Or you may want to volunteer in your community as part of the day of service. You can learn about the day of service here.
Please enjoy the long weekend and observe the holiday in a way that is meaningful to you.
This note is part of our ongoing acknowledgement of milestones within our diverse ASME family, and serves to reinforce ASME’s commitment to promoting and advancing Diversity and Inclusion. More to come as we move forward, together.
