Video: Yvonne C. Brill: Kate Gleason Award Winner

Yvonne C. Brill began a long career as a rocket engine specialist when few, if any, women were working in the field. Her work includes innovations in rocket and jet propulsion, including the invention of the hydrazine resistojet engine used for geosynchronous and low-earth-orbit communication satellites, and championing the hybrid electric mono-propellant rocket engine.

After working at Douglas Aircraft, she joined RCA Astro Electronics and then NASA and the International Maritime Satellite Organization (INMAR-SAT). She has been a member of numerous U.S. National Research Council committees and is presently a member of the NRC Space Studies Board. She was elected to the National Academy of Engineering and is a fellow of the Society of Women Engineers and honorary fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. She received a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of Manitoba and a Master's in Chemistry from the University of Southern California (USC).
